Alcohol Rehab
Problems of substance dependence produce staggering human and economic costs to society in terms of lost productivity, social issues, and health care. Medical problems such as high blood pressure, cancers, heart and liver disease, accidents, violence, suicides, birth defects and overall mortality can be attributed to alcohol. Relationship problems, including high rates of divorce and separations, domestic violence, etc. are over-represented among those with alcohol addiction. Employment problems can include poor performance, absenteeism, and work related accidents among those who are addicted to alcohol. Finally, legal problems, including high rates of crimes, traffic fatalities, and violence are associated with alcoholism. It is no surprise that alcohol rehab centers and alcohol rehab treatment programs have continued to emerge.
Recovery Programs
Many alcohol rehab programs have historically strictly provided alcohol rehab without attention to other mental issues. However, given the impact of addiction on other life issues, it is no surprise that mental health complications are very common among those who participate in alcohol rehab programs. In fact, more than 44% of alcoholics have mental health complications prior to the onset of alcohol dependence and many others develop mood-related complications, such as depression and dysthymia, after the onset of the addiction. We now know the importance of alcohol rehab centers to incorporate mental health treatments in addition to alcohol rehab services.
