Residential Treatment Programs
The treatment programs presented on this site specialize in providing outpatient and residential treatment. A residential treatment center offers support and structure for people seeking treatment for addictions and emotional conditions. Participants reside at one of the residential treatment facilities for the course of the program, and lengths of stay are flexible and individualized. Residential treatment programs include therapies, counseling, relapse prevention groups, and education about emotional conditions, addictions, as well as practical issues such as household management. Clients attend 12-Step meetings in the community and "outside" 12-Step meetings as well. Length of residential treatment varies for the individual and can range from 2 weeks to several months.
The flagship program for Foundations Associates in Nashville , Tennessee began providing residential treatment in 1995, and has expanded to offer outpatient and residential treatment programs in both Malibu , California and across Tennessee . Each of the outpatient and residential treatment programs offers a broad continuum or range of services so that treatment can be matched to the needs of the person. The residential treatment facilities across Tennessee include therapeutic communities, halfway houses, and independent living for those needing longer term services. In these residential treatment facilities, the person progresses through five levels and as he or she exhibits improved self-management and independent living skills, he or she begins to practice increased levels of independence in a supported environment.
The Nashville residential treatment center was subject to rigorous testing and evaluation, and a five-year comprehensive study showed outcomes that included:
- A substantial increase in abstinence (up to 70% of patients up to 1 year following treatment) from using chemicals (alcohol, opiates, etc.) was achieved by a majority of clients up to one year following treatment.
- Reduction of severity of psychiatric symptoms by 60% with corresponding improvements in the quality of life.
- Dramatic cuts in repeat service utilization were tracked, with 80 to 90% reductions in inpatient and emergency room visits related to substance use or mental health conditions.
- Cost-effective care increased, showing appropriate and money-saving utilization of community supports and services.
- The results indicate that the Foundations model of integrated and continuous treatment breaks the traditional cycle of less effective services.
- Principles from this highly successful residential treatment program were adopted in each of the recommended residential treatment programs. Click here for more information.
